Tuesdays at The Russet - Don Kipper + Gillespie and Wolf + Jonny Holiday

  • The Russet 17 Amhurst Terrace London, E8 2BT United Kingdom (map)

We will be hosting live music every Tuesday in April and May, at The Russet in Hackney Downs. Expect amazing music, delicious food and a lovely atmosphere at one of our much-loved venues.

DON KIPPER

Don Kipper are a multi award-winning innovative ensemble playing and transforming a wide range of traditional musical forms, from Turkish Fasıl and Greek Rebetiko to Romanimusic and Klezmer. Attempting to root themselves deeply in these traditions, they seek to explore radical interpretations and taut arrangements full of complex harmonies, polyrhythms and imaginative improvisation. Since 2013, they have released their First and Second albums, played two European Tours, and won the titles of both the Moshe Beregovski Award for best Klezmer Newcomers  and The World Music Network’s Battle of the Bands

GILLESPIE AND WOLF

Currently based in Edinburgh, but with a penchant for travel to faraway and not so faraway places, Gillespie and Wolf delight in busking, performing, singing and sometimes dancing for whatever good people of the world will have them.

Playing predominantly violin and guitar and messing around with harmonic vocal interplay, Gillywolfe are also known to stretch their hands to viola, flute, oud, banjo and piano, if Becka can get her sticky paws on one. Musical influences range from a strong hint of English, Scottish and Irish traditional, through to Gaelic song, French chanson, Appalachian, Balkan, Klezmer and Arabic.

We are delighted to host Gillespie and Wolf for the first time.

JONNY HOLLIDAY

Jonny plays jazz - or does he? Self-professed "mouth-trumpet guy," Jonny rocks out a huge variety of tunes, all with rock-solid guitar, honey-smooth vocals, a toe-tapped beat and some pretty phenomenal vocal improv. We are delighted to welcome a hugely entertaining performer back to the Woodburner stage.
