THE MAGIC LANTERN

The Magic Lantern is the musical moniker of singer-songwriter and composer Jamie Doe, an artist dedicated to examining the limitless depth of human experience in our search for meaning. Born in Australia before moving to the UK at 12, he is a part of a thriving scene of musicians who move fluidly between jazz, folk and contemporary classical music to carve out a space of their own.

His new single 'Bound for Glory', reminiscent of Sufjan Stevens at his most rhythmic, was written while helping to care for his father with Alzheimers disease and examines what loss can teach us about love.

Performing with a band drawn from London’s thriving jazz scene, The Magic Lantern’s live experience is lyrically compelling, lushly harmonic and unapologetically moving.

'Bound for Glory' is out now.

“Dreamy, beautiful. Something very, very special." - Lauren Laverne, BBC6 Music

“Extraordinary. Beautiful poised singing, amazing lyrics. Hypnotic!" - Tom Robinson, BBC Radio 6 Music

"Gorgeous, beautiful. This stopped me in my tracks. Slightly surreal, in all the right ways" - Jamie Cullum, BBC Radio 2

Genevieve Dawson is a songwriter, singer and multi-instrumentalist from Scotland now based in London.

Her debut album, Letters I Won’t Send was released via collective label Hertha Records, in September 2020 to critical praise from industry legends including Guy Garvey - “I really love it, I absolutely love it."

“Sounding this good on a debut single, should be, and quite possibly is, a crime against long-suffering musicians everywhere, not that we’re complaining.’ - For the Rabbits

“Memorable and densely textured” - Tom Robinson, Radio 6 Music

“Really beautiful music” - Robert Elms, BBC Radio London

‘"She] blends folk-roots with spicy infusions of off-kilter improvisation and ambitiously ambiguous harmony. Genevieve’s take is not unlike that of Hejira-era Joni Mitchell - her songwriting knows no upper bounds… see her and her band at any opportunity you get" - Bittersweet Symphonies
