Zeñel + Heritage + Ivicore

  • The Jago 440 Kingsland Road London, England, E8 4AA United Kingdom (map)

The London-based ensemble cross jazz & electronic influences, Leeds newcomers bring their unique party vibe, plus latin beats from Ivicore.

ZENEL

Zeñel is made up of London based trumpeter and producer Laurence Wilkins, Portuguese native Zoe Pascal on drums, and keyboard virtuosos Jay Verma and Alex Wilson sporting a seemingly infinite array of patches. They utilise a unique approach to midi and computer-based sound design to deliver a poetic combination of Jazz improvisation crossed with the world of electronic music, drawing from sounds seldom heard in live band contexts, inspired by cultural heritage of the electronic music, from the UK and globally.

Their unusual and unique use of sounds has already gained attention, receiving radio play from BBC Radio 3 and Worldwide FM, and also having graced the stages of Ronnie Scott’s (supporting Ghost note), Love Supreme Festival, Jazz Re:freshed, La Petite Halle in Paris and many, many more. They released their first EP, Extreme Sports, in March 2020. Since then they have recorded more music and have been involved in the Brownswood-affiliated Future Bubblers programme.

Heritage

‘Heritage’, are a 9-piece Future Soul/Jazz ensemble based in Leeds, UK.

Lyrical concepts address shared experiences of personal struggles and triumphs, and tackle current political issues. These themes are elevated by powerful vocal hooks and horns, backed by a tight rhythm section, who bring infectious grooves and danceable beats that make the lyrical message only stronger.

Vocally, ‘Heritage’ take inspiration from the likes of Lianne De Havas, Erykah Badu as well as the vocal arrangements of Nai Palm, lead singer of the Future Soul group Hiatus Kaiyote. Instrumental influence is drawn from contemporary Funk/Soul artists including Anderson .Paak as well as bands at the forefront of the contemporary Jazz Scene, notably Nubiyan Twist. The ‘Heritage’ sound is a fusion of multiple subgenres that are relevant in the UK Jazz scene (Afrobeat, UK Garage, Hip-Hop, Soul, Drum and Bass).

Having graduated from Leeds Conservatoire, ‘Heritage’ have established a significant presence in the Leeds area since their debut gig in August 2021. They have performed in multiple venues in and out of Leeds, supporting the likes of Secret Night Gang (Brownswood), K.O.G. (Pura Vida Sounds) and TC & The Groove Family (Worm Discs) on their UK tours for sell-out shows in reputable venues. ‘Heritage’ have also had highly successful headline shows in Leeds and Sheffield.

‘Heritage’ are releasing their debut EP in October 2022 under Leeds-based independent label Moma Cat Discos, following on from the successful release of the EP’s debut single: ‘The Suits’.
